ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT

Timber is a natural, renewable, non toxic, recyclable and bio-degradable material. As such, timber construction has real environmental advantages unlike concrete, steel and masonry.

Donaldson and McConnell are a market leader in the design, manufacture and supply of complex timber roof structures. We take our environmental responsibilities seriously and are committed to properly assessing and managing the environmental impact of all our business activities. From the sourcing of raw materials to the shipping and transport of our finished end-product.

We have detailed the measures we take below.

Sourcing Softwood

Donaldson and McConnell sources softwood from well managed forest areas and suppliers in Finland and Sweden.

Each supplier that we chose to work with operates within a detailed regulatory and environmental framework. As a result, Donaldson and McConnell have been granted certification by BM TRADA under the PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) TRADA-TRAK Chain of Custody Certification Scheme.

This certification confirms that the majority of softwood product that we offer is sourced from suppliers who are also certified and endorsed by PEFC.

Further details on PEFC environmental certification can be found at www.pefc.org

Engineered Wood

Donaldson and McConnell are renown specialist in the design, manufacture and supply of engineered wood products - widely acknowledged to be an environmentally efficient resource.

When manufacturing engineered wood we are able to recycle otherwise unusable general timber waste, such as chips. Waste is minimised as a result. And all timber fibres are properly utilised.

Timber Treatment

The treatment of timber is carefully regulated by the Environmental Protection Authorities in the UK and Ireland.

Donaldson and McConnell regularly invests in equipment that allows us to carry out the low pressure impregnation of timber to protect against insect and fungal attack, to the highest possible industry standards.

Shipping and Transportation

We ensure that our approved timber suppliers continuously assess the environmental impact of shipping supplies to us. This allows us to be confident that best practice is being followed and that minimal damage is caused to the marine environment. We also endeavor to be increasingly fuel efficient when delivering our product range to clients across the UK and Ireland.
